We are excited to offer this extremely nice, one of a kind 1979 Jeep CJ5.
For many years, 2shores is offering selected first grade examples of collectible automobiles. This truly outstanding American Icon is one of those special cars!
In 1944, Willys-Overland, one of the two main manufacturers of the World War II military Jeep, built the first prototypes for a commercial version – the CJ, short for "civilian Jeep". From then on, all CJ Jeeps consistently had a separate body and frame, rigid live axles with leaf springs both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, and a fold-flat windshield, and could be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they had part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. After remaining in production through a range of model numbers, and several corporate parents, the Jeep CJ line was officially ended in 1986. More than 1.5 million CJ Jeeps were built, having continued the same basic body style for 45 years since the Jeep first appeared. Widely regarded as "America's workhorse", the CJs have been described as "probably the most successful utility vehicle ever made. "American Motors VP Joseph Cappy said the end of "CJ production will signal an end of a very important era in Jeep history." The Jeep CJ-7 was replaced in 1987 by the similar-looking Jeep Wrangler.
This is our personal CJ5 which we have owned since 1995. It sold new in California’s dry East Bay and has been in our care since.
The Jeep has been frame off restored under our ownership in 1997. The restoration is completely documented and consisted of a complete engine rebuild and bare metal respray to original arrowhead silver (9J). Noteworthy is the remarkable, 100% rust-free condition of the body. This Jeep has never been welded on, has never been wrecked and never taken hard off-roading. All body panels are made of 100% original Jeep steel and are original to the car! The Jeep has just about 10.000 miles on the restoration and still looks like new with only very minimal wear! Adult driven and maintained in dry storage for years!
This is a rare CJ5, one of the last equipped with its factory AMC 304cui V8 coupled to a a Tremec T-150 3 speed transmission with a Dana 20 transfer case. Power steering and power brakes!
It has the desirable padded dash in excellent condition, tilt steering wheel and like new, original Jeep high back seats and a back seat. Full cage roll bar, perfect full top with doors (Besttop) Bikini top and half doors.
The Jeep was set up after restoration with a 2inch Superlift kit, a 1 inch Body lift and 10x15 Weld wheels with 35x12.5x15 BF Goodrich tires. Those are the only modifications from stock.
This is a rare find! Never been abused, long term ownership, a 23 year old restoration with only 10k miles still looking like new.
A true American icon and one of very few left in this remarkable condition! All original California smog equipment in place! Gorgeous and rarely seen color combination as well.
Please study all the photos closely to evaluate the condition of this car!
