1966 Porsche 911 Coupe, all numbers matching including date coded chrome wheels. This early example, built in December of 1965 has spent all of its life in dry and sunny California. It has its original California “Black Plate” license and was featured in Excellence Magazine in October 2013. The current mileage showing on the odometer of 58,134 is believed to be correct.
The car was sold new in Carmel California and had thee owners before it was taken off the road in 1981 and stored in a barn in Northern California. The current owner and Porsche aficionado acquired it in 2008 and commissioned a complete nut and bolt restoration. The body and paintwork has been done by renowned Porsche specialist Dink Farmer in Lakeport California. The car was remarkably rust-free and all original body panels and floors of the car were retained. Repainted to its original Irish Green (6606) the car looks absolutely stunning with perfect gaps and shut lines all around.
The numbers matching motor and transaxle were completely rebuilt and restored and have less than 1,000 miles on them since the rebuild. The engine work was done by Alan Klingen of the Stable in San Francisco. The original Solex carbs were restored by Solex specialist Harry Bieker. The engine, while completely original on the outside and retaining its two liter displacement, was upgraded internally with S-heads, Elgin cams, and JE pistons and cylinders, and produces close to 200 hp on the dyno. All documentation and paperwork for the work as well as a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is present.
The interior of the car was finished in black leather and German naugahyde by Autos International and is flawless, including a correct Blaupunkt radio and headrests. All gauges were restored by Palo Alto Speedometer.
The car looks, runs and drives like a dream. The brakes, shocks and suspension are all new or rebuilt. A rear anti-roll bar was added as were larger front torsion bars creating more stability when the car is driven in a spirited fashion.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a fully sorted and very early Porsche 911 with all the unique features only the early 65 and 66 cars offer, such as wooden steering wheel and dashboard inserts and the slanted 911 emblem.
The car is ready to be used and or shown and needs absolutely nothing. It comes with historic FIA papers, making the car eligible for most prestigious European touring, rally and race events.
