Founded by Milt Brown in Oakland, California in the early 1960’s, International Motor Cars went out to build a sports car with European lines and American reliability. One that could compete with the period Jaguars, Astons and Maseratis.
The result was nothing short of stunning. The steel bodies were hand-hammered in Torino Italy, fitted with finest Italian interiors and then shipped to Oakland to be mated with a Buick driveline.
Press and public went crazy when the cars were first introduced at the San Francisco Auto show in 1963.
Unfortunately, the small company went out of financial resources after only 88 cars were built. The total production was for 77 Coupes and 11 convertibles before production ended.
This car:
This particular car is the second to last of the Coupes built. The car has an exciting history. After being confiscated by customs upon arrival in the US, it was then auctioned off to a buyer who basically just stored the car for 35 years in Southern California.
This Apollo 5000GT is according to Mr. Brown the most original Apollo in the world. The car is un-restored except for an outside re-spray to its original color. It still carries all original badges and emblems, the wonderful Borrani rims and the ultra rare aluminum grille.
It has only been driven 3000 miles in its entire life and it also is the only green Apollo ever built. The car is 100% original and authentic and is one of only 43 Apollo’s left on the planet. The documentation on the vehicle is extensive and among Apollo enthusiasts, this car is known to be the “ex Milt Brown” Apollo.
