1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Targa

We are excited to offer on behalf of one of our customers, this highly original, low mile 1996 Porsche 993 Targa.

For many years, 2shores has been offering selected first grade examples of collectible automobiles. This low mile 911 Targa is one of those offerings!

History:
The Porsche type 993, is the fourth generation of the 911 model, manufactured and sold between 1994 and 1998 (model years 1995–1998 in the United States), replacing the 911, type 964. Its discontinuation marked the end of air-cooled 911 models.

The 993 was much improved over and quite different from its predecessor. According to Porsche, every part of the car was designed from the ground up, including the engine and only 20% of its parts were carried over from the prior 911. Porsche refers to the 993 as “a significant advance, not just from a technical, but also a visual perspective.”

The external design of the Porsche 993 was penned by English designer Tony Hatter. It retained the core cabin and body shell architecture of the 964 and prior 911 model iterations, but exterior panels were revised with much more flared wheel arches, a smoother front and rear bumper design, an enlarged retractable rear wing, and teardrop shaped mirrors.

The Targa version of the 993 was introduced in the 1996 model year and was the debut of the so-called “greenhouse” system – a retractable glass roof, a design continued on the 996 and 997 Targa. The glass roof retracts underneath the rear window, revealing a large opening. This system was a complete redesign, as previous Targa models had a removable roof section and a wide B-pillar functioning as a roll bar. The new glass-roof design allowed the 993 Targa to retain the same side-on profile as the other 911 Carrera variants and finish without the inconvenience of storing the removed top of the old system.

The Targa was equipped with distinctive two-piece 17-inch (430 mm) wheels,

Our car on offer is a two owner C2 993 Targa with a 6 speed manual transmission with limited slip, finished in rare Turquoise metallic with contrasting classic Grey leather interior. An ultra rare and stunning color combination.

With only 72,789 miles from two careful owners, the car presents almost like new. Paint, interior and engine are in fantastic condition with hardly any signs of wear.

The paint is factory original except for the front hood and front fenders and stunning with only very minor imperfections from use. The grey leather interior is extremely well preserved and shows and feels like new.

This unique and beautiful Porsche has received a complete engine rebuild earlier this year, just 790 miles ago by renowned Porsche specialist Reno Rennsport. The original engine was completely taken apart, bored over to 3.8l and fine tuned. With only 790 break in miles, you literally get a brand new engine in this beauty. The car feels very strong and torquey, yet happy to rev through all gears like an air-cooled motor should. The manual 6 speed transmission was also gone through at the time and paired with the limited slip differential, this drive train is fun! Invoices for this service totaled over $50k and come with the car.

The owner just put a set of brand new classic Fuchs style wheels on the car, wrapped in new Conti Super Contact Sport 02 tires. The factory Targa rims come with the car as well.

This 993 comes from a true Porsche aficionado and was always well serviced and taken care of.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the last air-cooled Porsche 911 models in a highly sought after color and less than 1000 miles on engine and transmission. The car is extremely nice, well sorted and ready to be enjoyed. It runs and drives fantastic and is mechanically and visually outstanding.

The Porsche comes with all service documents, invoices, books, manuals, spare, compressor and tools.
