One of the most coveted Porsche collector models, the 356 Speedster was introduced in late 1954 at the urging of Max Hoffman, who recognized that a lighter, more spartan open car would capture the American market. With its low raked windscreen (removable for weekend racing), bucket seats, and minimal top, the Speedster became an instant icon—especially in Southern California. Just 4,854 were produced across all years before it was replaced by the Convertible D in late 1958.
This example is finished in striking Signal Red over black and has remained with the same California owner since 1966—an extraordinary 60-year single ownership in the Golden State. Serviced for six decades by Frank’s Automotive in Sacramento, it has undergone two restorations (the most recent completed in 1997). The result is a rust-free, accident-free car with numbers-matching body panels and exceptional long-term California provenance.
The original engine was replaced years ago with a 912-derived unit bored to 1722 cc. The car is tightly sorted, responsive, and ready to drive and enjoy immediately.
