2shores is pleased to offer this handsome 1961 Porsche 356 Super 90 Cabriolet on behalf of a long-time customer. For many years we have offered carefully selected, first-grade examples of significant collectible automobiles. This 356 is one of them.

Provenance

In late 1959, Porsche introduced meaningful styling and mechanical refinements that created the 356 B (T5 body). The T5 was offered as Coupe, Cabriolet, and Roadster.

This particular car was delivered new on 21 March 1961 to Mr. Dehler in Nuremberg, Germany. It left the factory finished in Light Ivory over black leatherette and was well optioned with:

• Outside temperature gauge
• Electric clock
• Blaupunkt Stuttgart radio
• Shift lock
• Additional period equipment that remains with the car today

The car later came to the United States. Continuous documentation resumes in 1990, when the present owner purchased it. Under his 36-year stewardship the car has been carefully maintained and regularly serviced in the Sacramento area.

Present Condition

Some years ago the car was repainted Signal Red. The finish remains attractive with only minor age-related imperfections. The body is solid, with no structural corrosion, and presents as a very honest, usable driver.

The original Super 90 engine (Type 616/7) was replaced at some point with a Type 616/12 Super engine from a later T6 356. The car runs and drives very well.

Interior and top are excellent: the seats and cloth soft top have been restored and look sharp. The dashboard is complete and attractive, still fitted with the original metric (km/h) speedometer. The Blaupunkt radio continues to function.

The car currently rides on slightly wider steel wheels with hubcaps; the original steel wheels are included. A practical luggage rack is fitted, ideal for longer tours. Also accompanying the car are:

• Spare tire and toolkit
• Owner’s manual
• Original Kardex card
