1973 Ford Capri RS 2600
1973 Ford Capri RS 2600
Extremely Rare Street-Legal 1973 Ford Capri RS 2600 Series 1.5 – The Original “Porsche Killer”
This is one of the rarest and most legendary high-performance road cars to come out of Germany in the early 1970s.
Ford built the RS 2600 as a homologation special for FIA Group 2 racing. It dominated the era: winning the European Touring Car Championship, German Touring Car titles, the Tour de France Automobile, and class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in SPA 1972. Iconic drivers including Niki Lauda, Jochen Mass, and Dieter Glemser piloted these cars in the fierce Ford-BMW wars against the mighty E9 CSL “Batmobiles.”
Never officially sold in the United States, the Cologne-built RS 2600 came from the factory with a high-compression, mechanically fuel-injected 2.6L Cologne V6. Total production: 3,532 examples. Only 1,047 were the desirable post-facelift Series 1.5 (after September 1972). Today, specialists estimate fewer than 100 survivors worldwide.
This specific car:
One of the 1,047 Series 1.5 models
Believed to be the only authentic, street-legal wide-body RS 2600 currently in the United States.
Highly original, never raced or abused, with complete documented ownership history from day one.
Stored off the road in Germany from 1991 until 2018.
All wide-body flares, rear ducktail spoiler, and ultra-rare BBS E30 three-piece magnesium wheels are genuine Ford RS Motorsport Program parts — factory Ford-stamped and period TUV-approved.
Original Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection in place.
A brand-new set of authentic 9×15 Minilite wheels has been custom-made in the UK so the original BBS magnesium set can be preserved for shows only.
Finished in its original Le Mans Green (color code M), professionally refinished in Germany in original race livery in 2018. The car looks sensational, runs and drives beautifully and appears at selected shows and Cars & Coffee events in Northern California.
The car was exhibited at the famous “Carmel Concourse on the Avenue” in 2021 and the “Legends of the Autobahn” event in Monterey in 2024.
The car will be present on April 25th 2026 at the Hagerty’s “Cars and Caffeine” event during the Historic Races at the Sonoma Racetrack in California.
Registered and street-legal in California since 2019. Part of my personal collection for almost 20 years. The car comes with a clean California title, original German registration papers, and the 1973 German title — making it eligible for most historic rallies, tours, and events worldwide.
This is a genuine Cologne-built European RS 2600 with full wide-body configuration — a true piece of motorsport history and a standout addition to any serious Ford or European classic sports car collection!
