1966 (8/65) Porsche 912 Coupe

We are excited to offer on behalf of one of our customers this very early 1966 Porsche 912 Coupe.

Rare Early 1966 Porsche 912 Coupe – Painted Dash, 3-Gauge, Short Wheelbase Classic.

For over 20 years, 2shores has specialized in hand-selected, first-grade collectible Porsches. This very early 1966 912 Coupe is a standout — one of the most desirable entry points into classic Porsche ownership for enthusiasts who appreciate purity, balance, and driving joy.

The 912 Legacy
Introduced as the accessible sibling to the groundbreaking 911, the Porsche 912 delivered the same iconic long-hood, short-wheelbase silhouette with a lighter, more nimble character. Powered by a detuned 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four from the final 356 series (102 hp), it offered superb weight distribution, razor-sharp handling, and remarkable efficiency — up to 30 mpg. Initially priced at just $4,700, over 32,000 examples were built between 1965 and 1969. Early sales of the 912 actually outpaced the 911, helping secure the future of Porsche’s flagship model.

This Example
Built in August 1965, this is a highly collectible early painted-dash, 3-gauge 1966 912 Coupe — among the first of its kind and increasingly sought after by serious collectors. We hold the original Kardex on file, documenting its factory specifications and provenance.
The car spent decades with a single family in Modesto, California, before its current owner discovered it last year. It remains a wonderfully solid, rust-free driver with excellent bones — the kind of honest, usable classic that Porsche enthusiasts dream of.

Engine & Drivetrain: The replacement 1967 912 engine was fully rebuilt in July 2025 with a light overbore to 1722cc and has only break-in miles. Paired with the desirable 901 5-speed transmission, it delivers that signature light, responsive feel. The 912’s low weight and balanced chassis make it an absolute joy on winding roads — often more engaging and predictable than its six-cylinder sibling.

Body & Exterior: Straight body with an older repaint in the original Light Ivory. It presents beautifully, with excellent gaps and shutlines. The brightwork shows authentic patina, adding character without detracting from its vintage appeal. All glass is good, and it rides on authentic 14-inch Fuchs wheels (from 1976) fitted with brand-new Michelin MXV tires.
The rare 100-liter fuel tank is a bonus for long-distance tours.

Interior: A pleasing mix of original and sympathetic replacement parts. The beautiful 3-gauge painted dash is a highlight — clean and evocative of the earliest 912s. Door panels and headliner are very good; carpets are solid. The seats show some honest patina and would benefit from light restoration, but everything functions as it should, including all gauges and electrics.

This short-wheelbase early Coupe captures the pure, minimalist essence that 912 enthusiasts cherish: lightweight agility, timeless 911 styling, and that addictive air-cooled boxer soundtrack — all without the complexity or cost of a full restoration.

It’s not concours-perfect, but it’s a genuine, rust-free, road-ready example ready for immediate enjoyment, weekend drives, or gentle collection.
Please review the detailed photos closely — they tell the full story of this honest survivor.
