1969 Porsche 912, Preservation class winner!

We are pleased to offer on behalf of one of our clients this very special, all original and un-restored 1969 Porsche 912 Coupe.
For many years, 2shores has been offering selected, finest grade examples of
air-cooled Porsches. This time capsule Porsche 912 Coupe is one of those examples!

The Porsche 912 is a sports car produced by Porsche for the 1965 through 1969 model years. An entry-level variant of the 911, it was also offered in compact 2+2 Coupe and Targa body styles. The nimble-handling 912 was a fitted with a 1.6-liter air cooled flat-4 from the last of the 356s, slightly detuned to 102 SAE horsepower at 5800 rpm. The 912’s high-efficiency boxer engine, low drag, and low weight allow it to get up to 30 miles per US gallon (7.8 L/100 km; 36 mpg?imp). Priced at $4,700, more than 32,000 912s were built from April 1965 to July 1969. Sales of the 912 initially outpaced the 911 (introduced in 1964), boosting the manufacturer’s total production until success of the 911 was assured.

For those of you familiar with 2shores and our offerings to the Porsche market, you come to expect very nicely kept, original Porsches from us for many years. That is what we do. But even for us, this 1969 Porsche 912 is something very unique. We have known of this car for about 10 years now and knowing the owner, I would have never expected this car being for sale one day. Known in our local Porsche circle (and beyond) as “George” and regarded by many as perhaps the best original paint car far and wide, this is a 912 of the highest collector quality.

“Georges” story begins in May 1969 being delivered to a Dutch wholesaler and then being sold to an American Porsche enthusiast in Southern California.
The car left the factory in special order color black over black interior with S trim, Blaupunkt radio, a locking antenna, rear window defogger, Hella fog/driving lights and front and rear sway bars.

The first owner, Mr. George Chapman used the car as a daily driver and he drove it. Mr. Chapman was a true Porsche enthusiast and to say he was very thorough with his records is an understatement! He kept every piece of paperwork for the car neatly organized in numerous binders. This makes for a documentation file, we have rarely seen before. It includes countless papers from the initial ordering process, hand written gas and mileage logs and all service receipts over the years.
And Mr. Chapman kept the car all original, never changed anything from the factory specs for 41 years.

Fast forward to 2006, Richard, the current owner of “George” was pumping gas in town when an elderly gentleman (Mr. Chapman) pulled in to get gas as well. The two spoke for a while about the Porsche but Mr. Chapman made clear, the car was not for sale.
About one year later, Richard was raking leaves in his front yard, when the very same black 912 pulled right into the neighbor’s driveway, driven by the daughter of Mr. Chapman, who turned out to be Richard’s neighbor. She inherited the black 912 from her father who recently had passed. Talking about destiny!

However, it took another 4 years before Richard was finally able to buy the car from his neighbor and the whole story with all the details and angles is too much for this format, but has been prominently featured over 5 pages in Excellence Magazine, issue October 2018 of which a copy is part of the sale. An inspring read!

This 912 has been mechanically fully sorted, the # matching engine has been rebuilt and bored out to 1722cc with about 125hp. The 5 speed transmission was also rebuilt at that time. The 912 runs and drives amazing and it looks simply stunning.

Except for the front hood, the car is 100% original paint with many panels reading below 100 micron! A paint protocol is available on request. Being a black car in California, the condition of the paint is simply unbelievable. The current owner has pampered, detailed and conserved this car to an unbelievable extend. The Porsche still carries all original chrome and stainless trim and its factory original interior (dash has been replaced) and everything is in show condition.

And I mean show condition! This 912 has not only won numerous PCA preservation class events, it also took first place in the Porsche Werks event, was awarded the Porsche Sponsor Award picked by Dr. Porsche (CEO) in 2019 and took two first place wins in the Monterey Concourse. It is also the only un-restored car to ever win 1st and 2nd in class at the prestigious Serrano Concourse.

A truly magnificent 912 from a fully documented 2 owner history, kept at a quality level rarely seen. Needless to say, the car is fully numbers matching, comes with Kardex and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. All books (manual in German and English), service manual, date coded spare, jack and complete tool kit included.
There will be many books, period brochures, trophies and memorabilia included in the sale as well.

If you are in the market for likely the best un-restored 912 in existence and would like to call “George” your own, give us a call. This car can never be replaced!

Please study all the photos closely to evaluate the outstanding condition of this car!
