1969 Porsche 911S Targa

1969 Porsche 911S Targa
We are excited to offer on behalf of one of our customers, this survivor type 1969 Porsche 911S Targa!
For many years, 2shores has been offering selected and unique collectible automobiles from private ownership. This survivor 911S Targa is one of those rare offerings!
History:
For model year 1969, the displacement of all 911 engines remained with the well known and developed 2.0l flat six engine. The major change for the model year 1969 was the slightly lengthened wheel base.. It moved the rear wheels on all 911 and 912 models 57 mm back, increasing the wheelbase from 2,211 to 2,268 mm (87.0 to 89.3 in) to remedy the car’s nervous handling at high speeds. Also, this was the first year for the fuel injection to arrive in the 911. Both the 911S and a new middle model, the 911E were fitted with a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system.
This increased the horsepower on the S model over the 68S model by 10 hp making this engine the strongest 2.0l engine to date, putting out 170hp.
This car:
Our car on offer is a fully numbers matching 1969 S Targa finished in stunning metallic blue (6853) over black leatherette interior.
The car has been sold on December 20th 1968 to Mr. Phil Ottinger by Wester Motors in Monterey, Calif.
Mr. Ottinger resided in Santa Cruz, Calif. and kept this Porsche in his possession until 2018. For almost 50 years, the car had only one owner.
It was then sold to the current owner in Texas.
This is a very unique S Targa from 1969 in a great color combination.
The car is best described as a survivor type 911. The paint was redone many years ago to the correct color, but it has aged and shows significant cracking, spider webbing and it’s share of chips. It has lost some of its sheen on the sun exposed panels, while the sides still look pretty good. Still presentable as a driver type car, but it won’t win any shows.
However, the body is straight and free of any corrosion and has good gaps. Solid floors as well. Good chrome and stainless, factory correct and date stamped Fuchs wheels including spare. The Targa top is excellent.
The interior shows actually really nice with good seats, carpets, a crack free dashboard and all instruments fully functioning including the clock. You notice a wooden dashboard fascia has been installed over the original fascia, apparently many years ago to create the look of a 1965 or 66 model. The dashboard shows a Porsche plague in the name of the original owner.
The speedometer shows 69670 miles, the engine is said to be rebuilt in 2004 by renowned Porsche specialist Tom Amon, but we could not yet obtain those records (still trying). The motor runs great, shows good oil pressure and the transmission works very well through all gears with no synchro noises.
The cars has received recent service under current ownership including new front stabilizer bushings, engine mounts, rear brakes and oil and filter service.
The single ownership is nicely documented by DMV registration slips going all the way back to 1969. The California black plate is still with the car today.
This is a rare find, one of only 614 S Targas for the model year and a car ready to be driven and enjoyed without worrying about another rock chip. A solid and cool looking driver that screams “let’s go and drive”!
This Porsche comes with the original Kardex (all numbers matching), date coded Fuchs spare, complete tool kit and jack as well as great owners’ history.
